SPEAKER SERIES PRESENTATION

On February 2, 2022, Jamie Arnold did a wonderful presentation for us. We had an excellent turn-out, with many from neighboring communities. Jamie was the owner of a glass recycling business in Kansas City, Missouri. He sold the business and moved to our area. He is now starting a glass recycling business in our area called Repeat Glass (www.repeatglass.com). Jamie has been working with the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District and other organizations to help get his business going. Watch for more information about this in the future.

ALKALINE BATTERY RECYCLING DISCONTINUED

Just a brief reminder that this program has been discontinued. Thank you to all who dropped off your batteries for recycling.

HHGTF MEMBERSHIP

Our membership has remained strong despite the challenging times. I would like to thank everyone who has stayed with us and continued down our common path to try and live and promote more environmentally-friendly lifestyles. I also want to thank our members for all the volunteer hours that they have given over eleven years, working the FREECYCLES and outreach tables, etc. The HHGTF certainly could not have made such a positive difference without your help. We would like to invite others to join us!

UPCOMING EVENTS

April 23, 2022 – HIGHLAND HEIGHTS COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP DAY – 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. After seeing how much litter is on some of the streets in our city, mostly in the spring after the snow has melted, it became evident that we should implement a city community clean-up day, as some of our neighboring cities do. The litter that is along the streets has a very good chance of going down the storm drains during heavy rains and then directly into Lake Erie. We have a date celebrating both Earth Day and Arbor Day and will be looking for volunteers. **Please refer to Mayor Chuck Brunello’s section of this newsletter or the city website for more details and registration information.

May 4 – Speaker Series: Highland Heights City Park Barn – “Impact of Trees in the Face of Climate Change”, Speaker: Divya Sridhar, Manager of Climate Resiliency and Sustainability, Cleveland Neighborhood Progress 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

June 1 – Highland Heights City Park Barn – Green Book Club Reviews from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

June 26 – Freecycle/E-Waste Drive – Highland Heights City Park Barn from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Sept 7 – Speaker Series: Highland Heights City Park Barn – “Climate Change and What We Can Do”. Guest Speaker Aaron Wilson – Atmospheric Scientist with The Ohio State University 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

NEW THIS YEAR:

We plan to add a Habitat truck to our event for items not taken for the Freecycle and/or E-Waste portion.

Here is a list of what Habitat will take: Clean/usable furniture, kitchen appliances, and supplies, lighting fixtures, sinks, plumbing supplies, tools, landscaping materials, and construction/renovation materials. No paint. Watch our website for further details or give Judy a call at 440-646-9820.

Thank you to all for continuing to be interested in our shared environment and how to keep it and ourselves healthy…please do what you can to stay safe and healthy!
