HHGTF Movie and Discussion Night
Movie Tonight – Playing into our 2019 campaign “Avoiding Toxins” the documentary “The Human Experiment” lifts the veil on the shocking reality that thousands of untested chemicals are in our everyday products, our homes, and inside of us!
Financial Report
- We are financially in good standing.
- We have $600.00 earmarked for the 2020 Alan Lorenz Environmental Scholarship.
- HHGTF has received just over $10.00 in donations from orders done through AMAZONSMILE. With the Holidays coming up, please be sure to select HHGTF as your charity of choice!
- Memberships: We currently have a total of 66 paid memberships.

- Highland Heights Shred Day is this Saturday, from 9-1 at the Service Department
- Medical Equipment Collection is being done by Shirley Arnold
- The Pill Bottle Collection is being done by Leslie Elia. Judy will arrange to get them to Leslie.
FREECYCLE/E-WASTE drives:
Continues to grow every year, this year being no exception. We had 18 volunteers, thank you to all who helped out! The E-WASTE total this year was 600 lbs over last year with a total of 1,732 lbs. of “smart electronics”…there was not a count for the misc. items. We have now exceeded 8 tons of e-waste being collected and recycled.
LITTLE FREE LIBRARY:
Gets good activity, but mostly only the “takes”…so if you have any books you would like to donate, especially kids’ books, please see me.
ALKALINE BATTERY RECYCLING:
Drop off at City Hall and Wildcat Facility at Mayfield High School.
SKIP THE STRAW CAMPAIGN:
Please, let’s all do our part and say “no straw please”. Saying “no” to plastics is saying “yes” to our planet.

Annual Potluck Success!
The 8th Annual Highland Heights Green Task Force – ZERO-WASTE GAZEBO POTLUCK – and 50/50 RAFFLEJudy extended a huge welcome to all of us! We lucked out in the weather this year…although it could be a tad warmer, it’s not 93 and raining as in the past two years!
Financial Report:
- We are financially in good standing.
- Membership: We currently have a total of 66 paid memberships….running the same as last year. Perhaps 70 in 2020? Let’s do this!!!
- Alan Lorenz Environmental Scholarship Fund: Evelyn Kaufman was the winner of our $1,000 scholarship. Evelyn plans on becoming an environmental engineer. Once again, Pat Lorenz donated another $500 towards our 2020 scholarship fund. We expect to be able to award another $1,000 next year.
FREECYCLE/E-WASTE drives:

Field Trip to City of Euclid, Stormwater Treatment facility (which is currently still under re-construction). We had 20 attendings, and Laura Traverse was our presenter and tour guide. So much to learn about keeping our waters clean and safe for us, and what goes into our wonderful Lake Erie.

Recycler Tour
Accurate IT in Columbus: Judy took a tour in the middle of May… finally got to meet our contact, Jack Knapp in person, along with Clyde the transportation manager… the second tour I’ve had of the facility…. Jack spent about an hour with us! So glad to learn that as a recycler they are doing so well.
Medicine Bottles
Leslie Eliah medicine bottles…still accepting them, must be clean, labels removed and no sticky residue …bring to the Sept potluck, she’s planning on attending
EARTHDAY
HILLCREST HOSPITAL EARTHDAY CELEBRATION was Tues, May 7, and was a huge success… over 400 people attended, thank you to all who volunteered to work the table

Alan Lorenz Environmental Education Scholarship Fund:
The Alan Lorenz Environmental Education Scholarship has been funded in large part by the Lorenz family donations. Presently we have $585.00 earmarked for the $1,000 – 2019 scholarships….the balance will come from the General Donations ($160.00) and membership dues. Pat Lorenz and her daughter Ashley plan to attend Honors Day once again and Pat would like to present the scholarship envelopes to the winners. Marybeth Skala, Donna Grigas, and Joan Albro are once again on our Scholarship Committee.
Plastic Straw Campaign

Alkaline Battery Recycling
Took 31 lbs from JT Auto Highland & City Hall to Bulldog Battery….the Village picked up the task of taking what was collected at the Wildcat Fitness Facility at Mayfield High School to Bulldog! Thank you Mayfield Village!!! The HHGTF will continue to cover the expense of recycling the batteries ($1/lb) through 2019 and perhaps in 2020, we may be able to convince Highland Hts to take over the recycling effort.
REUSABLE PRODUCE BAGS!
After convincing Heinen’s to offer for sale of reusable produce bags a few years back…once they ran out, they were not re-stocked. So I called corporate and didn’t get too far with that…but NOW! They are once again at Heinen’s!! And even better … are being made for Heinen’s…with a Heinen’s label on them!!!….so excited about this!
